CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Monday, May 26 is Memorial Day, a national holiday to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice serving their country.
There are many ways people in Cincinnati can honor those who served in the U.S. Military.
Here’s a list of events happening in the Tri-State this weekend:
Memorial Day Ceremony at Union Township
Vietnam Veterans of America’s Clermont County Chapter 649 is holding its 33rd annual Memorial Day Ceremony at Union Township Veteran’s Memorial Park May 26.
The ceremony begins at 6 a.m. with the reading of the 415 names of fallen soldiers from the Greater Cincinnati Area. This reading will continue every hour until the final reading at 1 p.m.
A flag will be placed on one of the 415 crosses displayed near Helicopter Memorial as each name is read aloud.
For those wanting to read names, show up 15 minutes before the top of the hour.
Annual Memorial Day Field Mass
Gate of Heaven Cemetery, a Cincinnati resting spot for more than 7,400 veterans, continues the tradition of hosting its annual field Mass on Memorial Day.
U.S. Air Force Captain Jason L. Lain will deliver the Memorial Day presentation at 10:30 a.m., followed by the Hamilton County Police Association Honor Guards and later, a Fly Over by Warbirds will occur at 10:40 a.m.
Afterward, Cincinnati Archbishop Robert Casey and U.S. Military Veteran and Fr. Jason Williams will hold the field Mass at 11 a.m. at the Priest Mound Section 4.
Several buglers will play taps at veterans’ gravesites around noon, and at 12:30 p.m., the Knight of Columbus will lead the Patriotic Rosary in Section 28 at Veterans Gardens.

Hamilton’s Memorial Day Parade
The City of Hamilton and Butler County are honoring the lives of those who served in the Armed Forces with a ceremony at Greenwood Cemetery on Memorial Day.
The ceremony will be followed by a parade at 10 a.m., starting at the cemetery.
Memorial Day Weekend at Spring Grove
Spring Grove Cemetery is hosting multiple Memorial Day events, starting Thursday.
Cub Scouts will place flags at the gravesites of Civil War soldiers in Section 21 at 4 p.m. Then, the Ohio Military Band will perform a concert at the Rose Garden Gazebo around 7 p.m. to signify the start of Memorial Day Weekend.
From Friday to Monday, a Veterans Tribute will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day at the Norman Chapel.
On Memorial Day, the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will host a ceremony with the Sister Anthony O’Connell Auxiliary No. 10 performing the rose petal ceremony at 11 a.m.
Columbus musicians Steve and Lisa Ball will then play American Civil War music at 11:45 a.m.
This will be followed by a presentation in the Civil War Section at 12:30 p.m. and a Spring Grove Docent Civil War walking tour at 1:15 p.m.
The last event to take place is the National Moment of Remembrance and the playing of Taps, which will be performed by Russell Haussman in Section 21 at 3 p.m.
Field of Memories
Arlington Memorial Gardens is honoring heroes with its 10th-annual Field of Memories celebration.
The ceremony first took off in 2015 and quickly became a well-attended tradition in the community with nearly 10,000 people in attendance each year.
Here’s a list of events happening this week for Memorial Day:
- Wednesday, May 21: Flag installation at 9 a.m.
- Friday, May 23 through Monday, May 26: 1,000 flags dedicated to those who lost their lives serving their country.
- Friday – Monday: See and touch the 911 Steel Display.
- Friday, May 23: Concert with a fireworks display at 7 p.m.
- Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25: “Defying Death on the Atlantic” premiers in the Arlington Chapel at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
- Sunday, May 25: Lunch with a Veteran at 11:30 a.m., followed by the patriot skydiving jump and landing in the Field of Memories.
- Annual Flag Raising Ceremony will take place at 12:30 p.m., featuring the Mt. Healthy American Legion Post #513.
- Monday, May 26: Presentation of Colors and musket salute by the Sons of American Revolution at 2:45 p.m.
- National Moment of Remembrance at 3 p.m.

Dedication of Flag Pole and Historic Marker in Cheviot
The Cheviot Historical Society is hosting a dedication of a flag pole and a historic marker Monday as a tribute to the veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The dedication ceremony will take place at the Bethel Baptist Cemetery right before the Memorial Day Parade. Cheviot FOE #2197, the Cheviot Historical Society and Boy Scout Troop 601 will present the honors.
A reception will follow at 3807 Glenmore Ave.
Cheviot Memorial Day Parade
The City of Cheviot’s Memorial Day Parade will take place at 11 a.m. Monday.
The parade route will start at Bridgetown Cemetery and travel to Pioneer Park in Central Cheviot.
Memorial Day in the City of Cincinnati
- Clifton Memorial Day Parade and Picnic: May 26 at 10:30 a.m. The parade begins at McAlpin and Middleton, and ends at Mt. Storm Park. The picnic will take place at noon.
- Evanston Memorial Day Parade: May 26 at 10 a.m. at the Evanston Rec Center.
Blue Ash Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony
Monday will be Blue Ash’s 73rd annual Memorial Day celebration.
The parade begins at Reed Hartman Highway and Cooper Road at 10:15 a.m.
Dozens of military, non-profit organizations and businesses will take part in the annual celebration.
After the parade, a ceremony will take place at Towne Square at 11:30 a.m. with keynote speaker and U.S. Army retired Lt. Col. Josh Quantz.
Florence Memorial Day Parade
The City of Florence will have its annual Memorial Day Parade Monday.
The parade will begin at Boone County High School at 10 a.m. and travel to Florence Government Center.
This will be followed by a Veteran Memorial program at 11:30 a.m.
Loveland Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony
The veterans committee for the City of Loveland will hold its annual parade and ceremony Monday.
The parade begins at 9 a.m. from Loveland Elementary School.
Expect road closures between 8:45 and 10:15 a.m.
Here’s the parade route:
- Leaves from Loveland Elementary School
- Travels Loveland-Madeira Road (toward Quilter’s Studio)
- Turns right on West Loveland Avenue (toward Historic Downtown)
- Turns left on Riverside Drive to Veterans Memorial
After the parade, there will be a ceremony at the Loveland Veterans Memorial at the intersection of West Loveland Avenue and Riverside Drive.
Warren County Judge Gary A. Loxley will be the guest speaker for the ceremony.
A military flyover will take place at 9:45 a.m.
The community is also invited to visit the following cemeteries at these times:
- Maineville Cemetery: 11:15 a.m.
- Union Cemetery: Noon
- Kerr Cemetery: 12:30 p.m.
By 2 p.m., Loveland’s community picnic will take place at the American Legion Post 256.
Other parades happening in Greater Cincinnati
- Fairfield: Monday, May 26 at 10 a.m. (sharp). Starts at Express Scripts and ends at Veterans Park.
- Madeira: Monday, May 26 at 9:15 a.m. The silent march starts at St. Gertrude Church and ends at the Veterans Memorial at McDonald Commons Park.
- Park Hills: Monday, May 26 at 11:30 a.m. The parade starts at Notre Dame Academy to Park Drive. A flag ceremony will take place at Trolley Park.
